Destination 159Design

An afternoon of inspiration, an evening to remember

This August, Grey Lynn's vibrant 159Design collective hosted the inaugural Destination 159Design. A curated event for the design and interiors community to explore, connect, and celebrate creativity.

Showroom Activations

Our 159Design showrooms were open to interior designers, architects, stylists, and design enthusiasts throughout the afternoon.

From immersive displays to exclusive previews and the opportunity to meet brand founders and creatives in their own space – inviting guests to discover what’s new, what’s next, and what inspires.

The James Dunlop Textiles showroom was transformed into FibreGuard Le Bar Rouge, a pop-up bar offering sweet treats and refreshments against the backdrop of a vibrant floral installation. Guests immersed themselves in the world of high-performance as we demonstrated the magic of FibreGuard stain resistance against common stains like tomato sauce and red wine.

Bringing the digital and the physical together, our expansive library of digital textures came into play in collaboration with Glyph's cutting-edge augmented reality technology. Guests used an iPad to render the fabric of their choice into reality, seen projected onto a physical drapery through the screen.

To complete the experience, we offered a sneak peak of Soleil Voyage – Mokum’s much-anticipated, resort-inspired collection. Scheduled for release in October.

Live Panel Conversation

From craft to culture and media to materiality, four leading voices from the creative industries took part of our live panel discussion. Moderated by Catie Dawson of the Super Creative Podcast, the panellists explored what drives creative longevity, design narratives, and the future of our industry.

Our panellists included: Tom Webster of Webster Harding Architects and host of Grand Designs New Zealand, Emma Hayes, founder and creative director of her eponymous wallcovering and textile brand, seasoned publishing, design strategist, and founder of Folio Media, Nat Davis, and Amy Shaw, creative director of one of our foremost manufacturers, David Shaw Furniture.

Night of Delight

Following the dynamic panel discussion, guests moved downstairs to toast to community and creativity as the sun set.

Theatrical drinks by The Cocktail Guy, custom 159Design Colab beers, and Odyssey wines were complemented by the Northern Waters oyster bar, canapes by Flame Tree, and sonic pleasure by saxophonist-DJ Freddie Gardner.

All-in-all, the evening delivered an exclusive chance to mingle with industry leaders, discover shared ideas, and celebrate together in style.
