Following the recent relocation of Sotheby’s International Realty’s head office to Britomart, Auckland, Tailor Inc. began work on the company’s new Marketing Suite.

With experience in high-end projects and a strong understanding of the client’s operational requirements, Tailor Inc.’s design focussed on three key factors which spoke to the client’s brand – luxury, flexibility, and mood.

“All aspects of the interior were designed with Sotheby’s brand and core values in mind in a classic contemporary style, infusing spaces with luxury and quiet elegance.” Says Julie Coutts, Design Director of Tailor Inc.

The flexible central space can function either as one large room catering for auctions and events or be divided into six individual marketing suites by reconfiguring the operable walls, mobile joinery, and adjusting the lighting levels. Curtains in Motion by Zepel provide privacy in two additional client-facing meeting rooms where deals can be finalised, and the client’s journey concluded.

Mokum’s chunky Palermo upholstery was specified for the sofa in this central space. This dimensional fabric balances the desire for a residential look and feel with the durability required in a commercial environment. A second Mokum upholstery, Atlas, was specified for the David Shaw Arnold armchairs. Woven in a blend of natural yarns and inspired by traditional kilim rug weaving techniques, the natural lustre adds a point of interest within the space.

“One of the most challenging aspects of this project was that the space needed to feel warm, intimate, and inviting. This was achieved though the specification of the finishes – warm timbers, natural stone slabs, polished plaster walls, brass accents, and ambient lighting.”

To ensure the marketing suite catered to developers and high-net-worth property buyers, Tailor Inc. paired high-level design elements such as bespoke joinery and furniture with unique hardware, adaptable lighting, and tonal finishes, delivering a luxurious and refined look and feel to the Sotheby’s Marketing Suite.
