Located in Presidio Heights, San Francisco, the homeowners enlisted interior designer Elana Calabrese and Doma Architecture to completely renovate and revive their 100-year-old Beaux Arts era home.
Bringing her unique style of Californian luxury to the project, the design centred around the curation of the owner’s expansive art collection and a celebration of the traditional architectural elements. In addition to preserving the original black and white marble flooring in the formal entryway, it became a cohesive motif throughout the refreshed kitchen and bathrooms.
The vibrant palette of the formal living room was drawn from Cenote Azul #27, an acrylic on linen painting by Anne Leone. “We renovated this 100-year-old house, which is traditional, but the art still really worked,” says Elana to the Nob hill Gazette. “We had the perfect spot for it, and that did kind of generate all the colors for that living room, more or less.”
Continuing this artistic theme are bold black and white drapes in Mokum’s pure linen Abstraction. An artistic backdrop to the aqua blue velvet sofa and textural citrine swivel chairs, the drapery choice further works to blend the traditional with the contemporary via pairing the abstract, digital print with bronze curtain rods and rings.
“Elena orchestrated the color, texture and vibe, transforming the rooms into livable galleries to enhance the experience with our art,” confirm the clients. “She imbued the spaces with soul, making the home a canvas where every piece that we love told a story.”
