Inspired by the glamour and unapologetic extravagance of the 1950s Hollywood Regency style, the Draper Project was the perfect fit for Orno Interiors, specialists in high-end residential and boutique commercial design. Taking cues from famed interior designer and ‘anti-minimalist’ Dorothy Draper the project is a coming-together of the Mediterranean Revival style of the Beverly Hills Hotel and their favoured Hollywood Regency, with the existing Art Deco architecture.
Built in 1965 in suburban Perth, Australia, the two-storey residence’s potential to accommodate a family with two young teenagers and a business run from the home was obvious. So, to execute a modern interpretation of the classic comfort once found in the interior and exterior spaces the clients employed architect Daniel Cassettai Design.
It was essential that the existing architectural features were celebrated while breathing new life into the home by creating high-functioning family spaces that are inviting and luxurious. Key to the renovation was a pool area perfect for entertaining, channelling the vibrant resorts of Miami, Florida.
Squabs and sun loungers in Mokum’s outdoor velvets South Beach and South Beach Stripe are accented by cushions in South Beach and Tropicalia by Catherine Martin by Mokum, infusing the alfresco space with pops of candy colours. The timeless stripes and biophilia capture the pink and green vibrance of Miami while expressing the liveable drama epitomised by the Beverly Hills Hotel.
