Acquired off the plans from Ockham Residential, this unit was purchased by a Queenstown-based client as an Auckland bolthole. After taking possession in March 2023, Matt South of Matt South Designer was engaged to design the furnishings fitout and oversee the project from design to procurement, deliveries, and the installation.
With family and friends in Auckland, being able to entertain in the space was essential. “It was important to incorporate plenty of comfortable seating. The unit has a very compact footprint, so every piece of furniture needed to work hard for its real estate!” By designing multi-functional cabinetry and furnishings, the brief was met.
Seeking to inject personality into the neutral scheme of the unit, a palette of fresh blues and greens was introduced to create an atmosphere that is simultaneously calm and vibrant. “I was lucky to find a selection of fabrics that all complemented each other, building the colour palette I’d envisaged, without looking contrived.”
In the living space, a dining chair upholstered in teal, navy, and white stripes ties the sofa, upholstered in a luxurious wool-blend by Mokum, and the remaining dining chair, in a tactile velvet by James Dunlop, together. Natural touches of timber, wool, and cork bring warmth into the space, while curtains in our classic wide-width Linen by James Dunlop create a soft green-grey backdrop to the space.
