Interior design duo Hailey McGinty (Interior Designer) and Glenn Wilkinson (Commercial Project Manager) of H&G Designs welcomed their new-born son Lennox with a soothing nursey and master bedroom renovation in Diddillibah, on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.
Renovations began after the couple moved into the 30-year-old character home on a small acreage two years ago. When creating the nursery, the pair sought a space that was not only aesthetically appealing but also functional for life with a baby; this required enlarging the room by removing a wall to accommodate a change table.
Thematically, the couple’s surrounding environment and lifestyle dictated the design direction. “Initially, I was thinking of something to suit our property’s native Australian landscaping, chooks, and bees or a nautical theme as we love to spend a lot of time in the ocean. With this in mind I started searching for wallpaper and when I came across this one, I knew the whimsical, magical design was perfect,” says Hailey.
The brown and blue colour palette developed from the wallpaper selection. Hailey painted the half-height wall panelling blue to match the darkest shade in the wallpaper and create a subtle gradient down the wall, while custom powder-coated book ledges and a hanging rail invite a pop of sky blue into the room. A spectrum of brown shades are found in the timber flooring, furniture, handles, tiled benchtop, and the paint selection for the ceiling and additional walls and panelling. “I wanted to keep the palette to two main colours to create a sense of calm whilst mixing a touch of fun.”
