Designed in 1916 by George C. Nimmons in the style of the Chicago School, this sophisticated loft sits within the city’s Printing House Row landmark district.
An operational printing press until 1989, the building’s heritage drew Sixtysix magazine editor-in-chief Chris Force’s eye immediately. “One thing I’ve consistently looked for in any project, whether it’s a home or a creative venture, is meaning,” he says. “I’m always searching for signs of connection, some sense of fate or deeper reason to say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to something.”
The 2,000-square-foot open-plan loft has been Chris’s residence in a myriad of forms – from bachelor pad to art studio and office space, before morphing into a family home. For the recent renovation, Chris called on design firm PROjECT Interiors to create a space which honours the building’s heritage whilst enhancing its functionality.
