David Trubridge's path to becoming a global lighting designer was fairly unconventional. A self-taught furniture maker with a deep connection to nature, he has always had a love for creation and restoration.
Settling in New Zealand in the 1980s, David was inspired by local art forms and began crafting furniture by commission. Shaping what was to come for him as a designer and leading to one of the most refreshing takes on modern lighting today.

Manufactured with consideration for the environment, each design speaks to a sense of rhythm, essence, or spirit found in nature. The aesthetic is minimal and natural through the warmth of wood and design language have been described as 'raw sophistication.'
David Trubridge designs have featured in countless influential international publications, won many awards, and he is recognised as a leader in environmentally responsible design.
David's work reflects his interest in the land, people, and way of life in Aotearoa New Zealand; it is frequently inspired by walking in and photographing nature.
David Trubridge’s design language comes to life in this exhibition, themed by the New Zealand landscape. Our coastline plays a vital role in each piece of lighting design, speaking to a purity and love for wild places and the expansive, diverse wilderness of New Zealand.
David Trubridge hopes to make an impact on the US market by highlighting the value of connecting occupants in a space to nature through materials, shapes and shadows - bringing nature indoors.
