Beauty is found and celebrated throughout the creation of Mokum’s latest development, Magnolia, the hero design of our Essenza collection.
In response to fashion's love affair with flora, the Mokum design studio studied this magnificent flower – a symbol of nobility, beauty, and purity. Join us for a behind the scenes look at this remarkable textile.
To produce this delicate yet daring design the studio commissioned a talented German watercolour artist to paint a selection of magnolia flowers based on Mokum’s specific brief.
The final motifs were then resolved into a flowing repeat and dramatically increased in scale in the Mokum studio. The layered colour palette and artisan finishing processes were carefully considered to capture and enhance the water colour detailing, resulting in a design that is both subtle and strong.
The colours of Magnolia are inspired by the varied tones of Mother Nature. The depth of the palette moves towards sophisticated mid-tones and explores autumnal hues with high levels of saturation and mineral qualities. Our colour palette is completed by an ode to timeless Chinese porcelain.
Through state of the art technology, Magnolia is digitally printed in Italy onto the highest quality 100% linen base cloth. The linen yarn, Italian in origin, is printed and woven then carefully tumbled to elicit a substantial yet divinely soft handle.
Magnolia by Mokum is suitable for drapery, accessory, occasional light duty residential upholstery, and top of bed applications.
