Layers of soft textures, tactile surfaces, dimensional forms, and muted colours can be used to evoke a sense of warmth and comfort, allowing one to cocoon within their own personal sanctuary.

James Dunlop’s Fusion Cocoon collection is inspired by organic texture and nostalgic craft, offering sophistication through simplicity. Feeling both familiar and fresh, the curated palette of timeless neutrals and softly coloured pastels is at ease within minimalist, modern architectural, and traditional spaces.

Colour

Shades of warm blush pink and antiqued mauve resonate immediately with our subconscious, eliciting a subtle sense of calmness within interior spaces. Cohesively blending muted colours with grounding neutrals will create in a relaxing environment.

Sophisticated tones of baked peach, sand, and nature-inspired blues and greens can enhance our sense of wellbeing by bringing the outdoors in. Amplify any one of these colours with layers of diluted ivory or linen to soften the colour injection.

Texture

Soft textural layers of will invite touch and create a luxurious sense of depth in interior spaces.

Experimenting with different weaves and surface textures across soft and hard furnishings allows you to create interest through contrasting and complementary textures. Even if your palette is void of bright colour, introducing tone on tone pattern ensures a subtle sense of texture whilst maintaining a serene aesthetic.

Sheer or semi-sheer drapery provides a sense of privacy and movement at the window, whilst filling the room with dappled light. Additionally, textured weaves can cast delicate reflective shadows, enhancing the space with attention to detail.

Juxtapose textiles with natural elements like stone, wood, rattan, ceramic, and wool rugs to create an earthy, layered environment which speaks to the nature-inspired tones in the Fusion Cocoon collection.

The constructions within Fusion Cocoon were influenced by a nostalgia for craft, celebrating artisanal workmanship through the embellishment of embroidery, faux needlework, knitted weaves, and fringing. Energize plain fabrics by adding dynamic passementerie to cushions, curtains, lampshades, and upholstery. Try including an exposed selvedge on the edges of your cushions, contrast hems on your curtains, or bold blanket stitching or tuck pleats on your upholstery.

Functionality

Our homes are a multifaceted, so specifying durable, practical textiles is essential to ensure that we can live confidently on our textiles.

We experience particularly high levels of damaging UV sunlight in New Zealand and Australia, and while natural fibres such as linen and cotton are particularly susceptible to fading, over time all textiles will fade – just as the bricks, the paint and the roof of your house will. Utilising a quality lining can significantly increase the lifespan of your textiles, protecting them from harsh UV exposure as well as assisting in temperature regulation and thus reducing energy consumption.

Fusion Cocoon’s balanced offering of natural and synthetic compositions ensures versatility in specification. Mindful, Timeless, and Refraction are predominately synthetic, wide-width drapery qualities, while Gentle offers the soft touch of pure linen.

Nestle is a soft and dimensional chenille upholstery in a practical 100% synthetic composition, encouraging us to rest and recline. Nestle pairs brilliantly with the subtle weaves and softly detailed designs from the earlier Fusion collection, allowing you to enhance a base of textured weaves with accessories and detailed touches.
